iPhone vs Samsung Screen Repair: What's Different and What It Costs

By Nathan Deeble · · 6 min read

Here's the short version: on a lot of models, a Samsung screen repair costs more than the equivalent iPhone, and it's not because anyone's being cheeky with the price. Samsung's higher-end phones use large curved OLED displays where the glass, the screen and the frame are often bonded together as one expensive part. That makes the repair more involved and the part dearer to buy in. Below is what's actually going on, so you can see why the prices differ and what your options are.

The screens themselves are built differently

Apple and Samsung both make excellent displays, but they're put together in ways that affect repair. Most iPhones use a flat screen where the display assembly is a single, well-standardised part — fiddly, but predictable. Samsung's flagship Galaxy phones often use a curved OLED panel that flows over the edges of the phone, sometimes with the glass, the display and even the frame fused into one unit. When that's the case, a cracked bit of glass can't be peeled off and replaced on its own; the whole bonded assembly has to go. That's more work on the bench and a pricier part, which is the main reason a Galaxy S-series repair can top the equivalent iPhone.

Curved glass is lovely, and a pain to fix

Those curved "edge" screens look brilliant and feel great in the hand. The trade-off is that they're less forgiving when dropped, the glass wraps around the sides where it's easy to catch, and replacing them takes more care to get a clean, properly sealed result. A flat iPhone screen is a more contained job. Neither is better or worse to own — it's just that the design that makes a curved Samsung feel premium is the same design that makes its screen repair a bigger task.

OLED vs LCD, on both sides

Whether you're team iPhone or team Samsung, one thing drives the price on both: OLED. Newer phones from both makers use OLED displays, which give you those deep blacks and punchy colours but cost more than the older LCD panels found on budget and older models. So a cheaper Samsung A-series with an LCD screen can actually be less to fix than a flagship iPhone, and vice versa. The maker's logo matters less than the type and size of the panel. If you want the wider picture on what a screen job costs, our guide to iPhone screen repair costs in Tenterden breaks down the same logic.

What this means for you

  • Tell us the exact model. "A Samsung" or "an iPhone" isn't enough to price — an A14 and an S24 Ultra are worlds apart. The model number decides it.
  • Expect flagship Samsungs to sit higher. If you've a curved-screen Galaxy flagship, budget accordingly; the part is simply dearer.
  • Cheap screens are a false economy on either brand. A poor-quality panel can be dim or jumpy and prone to ghost touch and flicker. We fit quality screens so the repair lasts.
  • The fix time is similar. Most screen repairs, Apple or Samsung, are same-day and often within the hour if we've the part in stock.
